Short Bio: Edwin Liava’a is a blockchain expert with over 20 years of experience in providing connectivity solutions and capacity building in information systems and communication technologies. He became interested in blockchain after reading Satoshi Nakamoto’s white-paper in 2008, and later became involved in Ethereum, Hedera Hashgraph, and Chainlink. He is now a Chainlink Developer Expert and a Binance Affiliate. Moreover, he is a Certified AI Expert with the Blockchain Council. Currently Edwin is working on the PowerPlay project and the Kacific Blockchain/Chainlink “Space Nodes” Project.

When and what was your first touchpoint with DLT & Blockchain? 2008 – 2012: My interest in Blockchain started when I read Satoshi Nakamoto’s white-paper “The Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” after the financial crisis of 2008. 2018 – 2019: It was not until I read about Ethereum and Smart Contracts that got me seriously thinking more about Blockchain and the viability of the technology to everyday life. I then started getting involved in workshops, and after reading the Ethereum Whitepaper I decided to join the ConsenSys Academy Developer Program Bootcamp 2019. 2020 – 2021: I got more involved in Web3 with the blockchain technology and decided to get certified by the beginning of 2021 with the Blockchain Council in 3 certifications as Expert, Developer and Architect. As my knowledge grew, I realised that the technology has a limitation. In spite of its capabilities, blockchains are inherently closed off from the rest of the world, which is good for security and integrity but also limits the input data they can accept. This is when my quest for knowledge led me to Chainlink. I then realised the real power of the technology in solving the “oracle problem” using programmable bridges with hybrid smart contracts to receive off-chain data feeds and to invoke off-chain events. This is the point whereby I seriously started thinking about making a switch in career path and dedicate my time to the Web3 space. Moreover, I am totally convinced that this is the future and I want to get involved in the development of the technology for accommodating the rise of Crypto, DAO, DeFi and NFTs. 2021 – 2022: I became a Chainlink Developer Expert and a Chainlink Community Advocate. I was also a Top Quality Project Winner during the Chainlink Fall Hackathon 2021. My most recent milestone is participating in the Chainlink Solana Bootcamp Weekend Track on April 2nd and 3rd, 2022.
What fascinates you most about DLT? What fascinates me most about DLT is its ability to create a decentralized and transparent system for recording transactions. This technology has the potential and has already disrupted/revolutionized various industries by providing secure and tamper-proof record-keeping, reducing the need for intermediaries, and increasing efficiency. Additionally, the use of smart contracts in DLT allows for automated execution of agreements, which can further streamline processes and reduce costs. The potential applications of DLT are vast and exciting. It is indeed interesting times with the injection of generative AI and automation. I am totally looking forward to how this technology continues to evolve with cryptographic truth in making a better world for humanity.
