Why is blockchain interesting? Blockchain is interesting for its potential applications across many aspects of our daily lives; not only for its ability to enable organisations to be run by code rather than people, or the facilitation of turning real-world assets into liquid investments, but also the power it can give to people in terms of privacy and security when making online transactions that still ensure the integrity of their data. From transparency of supply chains to smart contracts that can automate and enforce agreements without human intervention (therefore increasing efficiency and reducing the potential for errors) blockchain technology could pave the way for a real paradigm shift across all sectors of society.
My touchpoints with blockchain and DLT so far: I have used digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum for transactions online, as well as explored decentralised finance platforms to lend and borrow digital assets. Through this, I have gained insights into how blockchain can disrupt traditional banking systems. Additionally, the company I work for has used blockchain solutions for clients to allow their customers to track the provenance of products they supply, in order for them and their customers to ensure their authenticity and ethical integrity.
