Why is DeFi interesting? DeFi is reshaping the financial landscape by eliminating intermediaries, enabling faster, cheaper, and more transparent peer-to-peer transactions through blockchain technology. It promotes financial inclusion by providing access to financial services for anyone with internet connectivity, regardless of location or socioeconomic status. DeFi drives innovation through programmable financial services like lending, borrowing, and asset tokenization via smart contracts. Despite its potential, challenges such as regulatory uncertainty and security risks make DeFi a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. This combination of opportunities and challenges positions DeFi as a transformative force for traditional finance.
My touchpoints with DeFi so far: My experience with blockchain and DeFi stems from my role as a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where I focus on digital finance and tokenization of real-world assets. In particular, I explore the role of blockchain technology, smart contracts, and DeFi in enhancing transparency, liquidity, and accessibility in the real estate sector. Participation in programs like DeFi Talents, attending conferences, and collaborating with startups active in tokenization have given me practical exposure to real-world applications. Drawing on my background in mathematics, econometrics, and AI, I examine the economic and societal impacts of blockchain-based solutions in housing markets, addressing challenges such as market liquidity, price volatility, etc.
