Why is DeFi interesting? The capital-based free market has, after more than a century of experimentation in consumption-driven social engineering, succeeded in taking control over individual economic agency by creating an utterly hyperreal socio-economic reality on this planet.
The movement to decentralize this system of financial control bears the seeds of a correction towards decentralized socio-economic governance, transparency of economic activity, and the removal of third-party intermediary interference in the direct flow and exchanges of value.
A truly decentralized financial system would not only close the current widening divide between human labour and economic value creation, and sensibly move humanity into its next industrial revolution, but also serve as the foundation for new, post-capitalist socio-economic systems that are not built on consumption.
The advent of blockchain-driven decentralization of finance presents the first real opportunity for the creation of individual sovereign economic agency since the first movements to centralize money began four centuries ago.
The only good system is a sound system.
My touchpoints with DeFi so far: I am privileged to see the first glimmering of the dawn of blockchain and DeFi, and be surrounded by profound change at planetary scale. No-one actually knows where this is going, so we can do anything. Think crazy decentralized thoughts. Throw them at the wall. See what sticks. No need to think outside the box. Tokenize the box.
